So the new year is finally upon us, and with it comes a whole slew of new and exciting things to make our lives that much more interesting. On my side, there has been quite a number of changes, prominently though is a new form of employment. More on that and more after the jump.
I had quite an interesting festive season. I say interesting, because it was probably one of the biggest emotional rollercoasters that I have ever been on. 2012, for those of you who know me, ended on a very low note. If you have been following my blog, you will know that a very close friend of mine called Trudie passed away quite suddenly. She was already quite frail after a series of operations rendered her bed-ridden, but despite the health concerns she still carried on, as if nothing was wrong. She had a braai a few weeks before she passed away, and as mentioned I couldn’t make it due to foul weather conditions. Something I still regret to this day.
As a result of my friend’s passing, I was feeling less than festive when Christmas rolled around, and couple that with a broken wisdom tooth and an ear infection, things turned out quite lacklustre. The only thing that redeemed Christmas day for me was that I spent it with both my parents. Something that is quite rare these days, as my dad is remarried after the 2003 divorce. We were a small group of people. It was myself, my mom, my dad, my stepmom, my stepsister and her family. It was quite enjoyable despite circumstances.
New Years’ Eve I just did not feel like being around people so I spent it alone at the flat. A decision which I am still content with. Quite a few days including New Years Eve/day I spent on my own, processing what had happened, and it gave me quite a bit of time to think and reflect. It all lead me to make some decisions, which I am not ready share yet at this stage, but ones that have worked out for the best so far.
One thing I can share however is a bit of good news. For those of you who have known me for a while, will know that I have been the proud owner of my own computer company called Fenix Technologies for several years now. I have enjoyed a number of successes and my fair share of failures. Towards the end of 2012, business just started dwindling. Much more than is the norm for that time of the year. A decision had to be made about my future as I now have my own home to uphold financially as well as overheads to cover, as is the case with most young people these days.
I opted to approach my biggest customer and ask for fulltime employment in their line of work. I am happy to report that not only did I get the job but I am enjoying it immensely. The last time I was challenged like this mentally was when I was still working for Truck Air Consolidators (courier company) back in 2007/2008.
Mental stimulation is something that I have been sorely lacking for a while now. Don’t get me wrong, Running your own business is quite challenging in its own right, but things tend to become repetitive. The only thing that could be construed as being challenging was the vast array of problems that customers tend to experience and is left for me to try and resolve, and lately I had been receiving doozies. When you reach a point in work where things annoy/doesn’t interest you, then you know its time to move on. I had reached that point with Fenix Technologies.
Surprisingly enough though, ever since I started at the new job, I have been getting an influx of work on the computer side which I am grateful for. I will gradually however transition my existing clients to a new computer company that I had been dealing with since my time working for Kunene Printer Support at the beginning of last year.
My 2013 is off to a great start so far and despite the rocking ending of 2012, I have quite a bit to look forward to. I have even decided to rediscover one of my 2011 hobbies, which is amateur acting. More on that later.
Until next time though.
